Hi all.
In short story I will write what happen to me in Poland and my Dell Alienware M18x R2.
I bought that laptop in 2013r. after I got grant from Europen Union for professional activation of persons with disabilities. I sign my own company and spent half of grant for Alienware M18x R2 rest I spent for needed programs like Adope Creative Suit CS6.
After upgrade my Alienware in 2014r. for 2x 880m it work very good till 3.11.2016 year.
When I end work at 2am night and I turn it off computer...

Upgrading from an AW18 Gtx780 SLI

Hello all great ppl!

I´m starting to consider upgrading my AW18 with Gtx 780 SLI that has served me faithfully for the last two years.
I´m aware that Alienware has stopped with the production of 18" laptops so the choice will have to go down in screen size.

So now to my questions:
What would ppl recommend to purchase if I would like to stay in the Alienware family.

My thoughts have ofc wandered to the new AW17 with gtx1080, or is maybe the gtx1070 enough?

Alienware M18x R2 with 980m - Possible throttling fix

After several tests on my single gpu M18x R2 and @Infinaris SLI setup, we have come to a workaround for the throttling problem occuring with the 980m. I am not sure if this can help 780m SLI or 880m SLI systems, but they are welcome to try.

Do the following and post results.

An unlocked BIOS is needed and one can be found from here or...

alienware 18 8 beep after switching to dedicated gpu

hello, i've had my alienware 18 for around 3 years now, and i upgraded to win 10 when it came out,around 6 month ago it started refusing to switch to my dedicated gpu, giving me the 8 beeps, i disassembled my laptop and removed both gpus(780m's) and put them back again, and it worked fine until yesterday, where it crashed and switched into integrated graphics. the GFX press was not showing me the press yes to reboot screen so i just restored windows and reinstalled command center and OSD,...

Hi guys, I've recently purchased an Alienware 18 which has a 750gb HDD. I'm wanting to add a crucial 250GB SSD but want the SSD as my boot drive and the HDD as my storage device. How would I go about this? I have a cloning kit which I could use to transfer all my exsisting data from the HDD to the SSD and then format the HDD. Is this correct? All advice appreciated in advance.

Howdy all! (new user)

I've been lurking around these forums for a few months - from last summer when I bought an Alienware 18 machine on ebay.
It was a good deal back then for a top of the line (or close to it) configuration - 4930mx, 2x780m, 32Gb Gskill ram, 240gb Crucial SSD, etc., mint condition - and I used it a lot for heavy stuff (3d content creation and games) but in the meantime I no longer needed portability, thus built a good desktop workstation and I'm thinking of selling it...

Is it possible to disable the reading of external drives connected to usb under startup, when i power on my M18X R1 with my 3TB USB 3.0 external HDD connected it takes forever to get into windows, is it possible to disable the external HDD reading in in BIOS?

I release here today my personal BIOS for the M18x R2. It is based upon svl7's unlocked A11, Swick's mods to A11, and I have changed back the boot images to default Alienware and Intel logos, as well as reverted the atheros LAN oprom back to the default version that does not take up extra boot time, since the oprom in swick's version cannot be disabled after hardboot. I have decided to release my own 980M undervolted vBIOS, based off the original Alienware 980M vBIOS. I have thermal protection set to 90 degrees, forced stock boost clocks, and voltage locked to a maximum of 0.9810V. I have bundled it with Prema's nvflash and a batch file to flash the vBIOS (modme.bat). This is NOT Prema's vBIOS, it is my own, therefore it is probably not of the same quality and is subject to further revisions and improvements. This is for 980M SINGLE SETUP ONLY in the M18x...

A18 conflicting battery reports

It only runs about a minute on the battery and suddenly shuts down. Battery is charged to 100%. Power button light flashes and first screen on reboot says battery low. I go into the bios and is says battery is fine. Computer runs 100% fine with or without the battery. Just wont run on battery only. I have a brand new battery and thats not the problem. Anyone have a motherboard schematic so I can trace the issue or know of a solution? I never used the battery since I have owned it, just used...

Just released the GTX980M & GTX970M vBIOS Mods for the AW18!

It won't remedy the throttle issue on other AW systems experience (that's for later).

So many people are asking how to upgrade AW18 to 980ms and i decided to make a tutorial how to do it (or i have done it.. :) ) I made an upgrade from 880m SLI so i have 100W Heatsinks. It does not work with 70W Heatsinks (Thx to Shekelstein)

I have a m18x r2, 3820qm, gtx675m sli. Recently I started getting random blank screens, during gaming(not heavy duty), or even just desktop usage. Seems to be no pattern to it. Have tested gpu's with Dell's included program, tried furmark( no extreme burn)temps were mid 70's. Never shut off during any of these tests. Integrated graphics work fine. I tried using gpu 1, screen went blank cruising thru a steam menu. I don't think there is a way to test gpu #2 without tearing down the machine...

I see many people have sold their Alienware laptops and got new Eurocom, Clevo etc. Well, I'm the lazy guy and thus I haven't sold mine Alienware M18X R2 Nebula Red yet. Initially it came with i7-3610QM CPU and AMD 7970M CrossfireX, 8GB RAM. After 2 years of using both GPUs have failed and I decided to get a replacement. It was difficult to choose a new GPU but now I have both Nvidia GTX 970M and 980M. Also, I got i7-3940XM CPU and 32GB RAM, SLI cable for future experiments.

hi all bit of help required
i recently reinstalled win 7 64 on my r1 all drivers etc
now when i connect cable from lappy to benq xl2420t via dp it does not start up on the monitor
swapped cable still nothing
i can connect vis hdmi but limited to 60hz when dp is 120hx+
any ideas on why dp inop
gpu is 560m

Hi Guys,

I have a strange problem, and i have been trying it resolve it with the top guy who is Mr Fox.
Before i give up hope i was just wondering if anybody may be able to help me please.

I have a m18x r2 with a 7970M gpu installed, the fan tables seem really bad and are causing overheating. The GPU fan seems to come on at low RPM when it feels like it and doesn't sometimes come on at all upwards to 100 degrees C , obviously i shut the machine down before it gets to this.

I have flashed...
